Census data, who governs what, and the industrial economy. Two administrative scales share the name — each figure says which one it describes.

Who governs what

The arrondissement council is elected. It handles civil status, legalisation, some permits, local roads, lighting, hygiene and neighbourhood facilities. The prefecture is the State's administration, led by an appointed governor, for public order and many authorisations. Casablanca's city council sits above the arrondissements for city-wide services.

Said Sabri سعيد صابري — President of the arrondissement council since 28 September 2021. Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM). Still chairing council meetings in August 2026.

Bureau as reported for the January 2026 council session. The bureau changed during 2025 after a public dispute with the former 1st Vice-President; the previous version of this site still listed the 2021 line-up. Positions not shown here could not be confirmed.

Economy and industry

The Sidi Bernoussi industrial zone is one of Morocco's largest and most varied: automotive (the Somaca assembly plant), metalworking, textiles, food processing, chemicals and logistics, tied to the northern motorway, the coastal road and the ports of Casablanca and Mohammedia.

A 2009 mobility study estimated about 50,000 workers and more than 570 production units across roughly 1,000 hectares — a historic figure, not a current count. In 2023 the Ministry of Industry opened the IZDIHAR multiservice centre and a plastic-waste recovery unit (36.5 million MAD combined).
